About our founder and director, Lorie LaSala

From her earliest memories, Lorie, has loved music. She grew up in a singing family where everyone from the youngest cousins to the grandparents sang together at any opportunity. In high school Lorie took every possible music class that her school offered, and had the privilege of singing under excellent high school and college choir directors. When she and her husband decided they would homeschool their four children, Lorie did not want them to miss out on group music experiences, which she thought was the best part of school. So in 1995, she created, The Central Lancaster County Homeschool Choir.

Meeting a great need in Lancaster's home school community, CLCHC grew rapidly. Soon Lorie was teaching almost 200 students in choirs for all ages K-12, plus, a full orchestra, a string class for younger students, handbell choirs, and a full-scale theater program. CLCHC needed to change its name and became the Lancaster Academy for the Performing Arts.

In 2019, Lorie left her beloved music academy so she and her husband, Bruce, could pursue their marriage-long dreams of homesteading. They moved from Lancaster County to the little town of Hopewell, tucked in the beautiful mountains of the northeast corner of Bedford County. Lorie loves their Homestead where she grows herbs for her tinctures, soaps, and balms; raises animals for meat, eggs, and milk; and grows just about everything they eat in the way of fruits and vegetables. But as busy as she is with their homestead, Lorie missed teaching music so the Bedford Choral Society I was born.

Lorie is the 40+ year wife of Bruce, mother of four, and grandmother to six precious grandchildren.
